Report: July 17th, 2019 Launching Conference in Addis Ababa (pics & video clip)

The Bridging the Leadership Gaps in African was launched in the US on May 29th, 2019 in a very colorful way. Click here to read the brief report with some beautiful pics. We have also begun implementing the Initiative in the diaspora where we trained the first batch New Breed Leaders of Africa (Cohort D1, D represents Diaspora) on July 6th, 2019 in Maryland, USA. The Initiative was also launched on the soil of Africa in Addis Ababa- the seat of the African Union, on July 17th, 2019 at Addis Ababa University (AAU) in the presence of dignitaries, guest of honors, business and community leaders, academicians, youth and women leaders. The conference was co-organized with AAU. Though the President of the University had a national emergency meeting to attend, he delegated the Director of External Relations, Partnerships, and Communications Dr. Demeke Acheso to officially open the conference.

The Keynote Speaker was H.E. Dr.-Ing. Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology.

The founder of PRO Leadeership Global Inc., Dr. Assegid Habtewold, gave a presentation explaining the Initiative and next steps.

Dr. Eyob Mamo, author, Speaker, and Entrepreneur, also spoke about the importance of Character in Leadership more specifically Trust in Leadership.

The launch conference attracted so many great participants who are active in their respective community and field. The participation of the audience during the panel discussion and brainstorming session was great.

Semhal Guesh, CEO of KABANA Leather, and Samuel Bekele, CEO of Spotlight shared their success stories that inspired the youth and women leaders.

The panel discussion was moderated by the coordinator of the Addis organizing team Kalkidan Tadesse. The panelists were:

  • Sewit Haileselassie, President of AWiB
  • Abiy Shimelis, Co-Founder of Addis Sustainable Life
  • Maceda Afework, Global Team Associate of CHAI

The panelists shared their insights about how to bridge the leadership gaps in Ethiopia and the rest of Africa.

The brainstorming session was facilitated by Dawit Tesfa, one of the Organizing Committee members and the lead of the dozens of volunteers who made the big day successfully concluded.
