Uber’s Board member forced to resign for his unsubstantiated disparaging remark against women

New York Times reported that David Bonderman resigned from Uber Board after sexist remark.

What happened was that “At an Uber staff meeting to discuss the company’s culture, Arianna Huffington- another board member, talked about how one woman on a board often leads to more women joining a board.”[i] In response, David Bonderman- a fellow Uber Board member, made a disparaging comment against women, “Actually, what it shows is that it’s much more likely to be more talking.”

Because of this spillage, Bonderman was forced to resign.

Interestingly, his bias toward women was unsubstantiated. A recent study shows that “Men talked far more than women did at meetings.”

This shows that many men (some Women) may have both conscious and unconscious biases that discriminate women but far from the truth. This requires actions at multiple levels. It calls to take proactive measures than just reacting when these kinds of biases surface. We at PRO Leadership are committed to contribute our share at all levels.
